Weird Café: Swing Night!

  • Weird Church 2688 Penrith Avenue Cumberland, BC, V0R 1S0 Canada (map)

A monthly concert series to benefit us all!

Local artists of all stripes coming together to quench our music-thirsty ears while raising money for fantastic local charities and highlighting local visual artists.

The Swingvalley Jazztet and Backyard Swing take to the stage Saturday September 25!  Backyard Swing features players from all over the Comox Valley. Long-time stalwarts John Thorington and Myrna Boorman anchor the group, and are joined by Gord Yarrow, Gunter Senkowski, Bob Udell and Gregor Schoenberg. Lots of fun swing tunes, covering Western Swing, Latin, and other styles.  Swingvalley focus on instrumentals by the great composers - the Duke, Johnny Mercer, Errol Garner, and others. (There just might be some guest vocalists!)

This month’s visual artist is Carol Nottingham whose 30-year career in storytelling through art is profound and moving.  Carol’s art will be on display at The Gallery @ Weird Church until October 23.

All donations received will be donated to The Foundry Comox Valley, a place where young people ages 12-24 can access mental health and substance use support, primary care, peer support and social services.

Weird Café will also be live-streamed on the Weird Church YouTube channel.

Later Event: September 26
